MANILA, Philippines – American fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger is finally coming to the Philippines.

Stores Specialists Inc., which has brought numerous international fashion brands to the Philippines, including Lacoste, Calvin Klein, Prada and Zara, will be the exclusive distributor of the U.S. label, the company’s publicist confirmed on Tuesday.

Tommy Hilfiger, known for its all-American image, will open its first boutique at Greenbelt 5 in May. It will also open another store at Shangri-La Plaza.

The timing couldn’t be better. Last week, Hilfiger joined the team of the popular TV show “American Idol” as image adviser to the contestants.

Hilfiger has dressed music superstars Beyonce, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.

According to an article on Vogue’s website, Hilfiger will work with each contestant's own style to enhance and develop their current look, rather than completely overhaul them.

"There are different sets of talent and certainly a country singer will not want to dress like a punk rocker. It will be up to me to help them determine what their image should be," he told Vogue.

"I'm sure I'll be criticized, but I am prepared for that. You just let it roll off your back. If you take it seriously, that takes the fun out of it. I'm not looking at this as a job or a burden. It's going to be enlightening and fun."
