Pinoys in rap band aspire to break into German music scene

Filipinos are known to be music lovers. From simple videoke sessions to the international scene, Pinoys sure knows how to sing their hearts out.

The same love for music has driven Germany-based Filipino musician Edmund Pimentel to form a group with his brother and his Turkish cousin.

The result: a promising rap band called “Asphalt Akkorde,” which is ready to break into the German music scene.

“Music is a part of the Philippine culture, so that influenced our love for music,” Pimentel said in an e-mail to GMA News Online.

The band—composed of guitarist Edmund, his brother AyoJay and cousin Kanuni— prides itself for its uniqueness and versatility.

“Each one of us got skills in different categories: beat producer, rapper slash singer and guitarist… We don’t have any icons because everyone who’s doing music should be an icon of himself,” Edmund, who is currently lives in Cologne City, said.

The band has already put up videos of their acoustic rendition of songs on YouTube to show the world their talent. “Our plan is to build a big fan-base to become more famous,” the band’s guitarist candidly said.

He added that the band’s passion for music makes him definitely feel closer to his roots.

“Music is one world language, and it’s always overcoming any distance to our mother country,” he said.
