Young Fil-Am lady doctor one of 2012 'Texas Rising Stars'

HOUSTON — Dr. Meilani (Mimi) Mapa, a native of East Liverpool, Ohio, has been selected as one of the top new doctors in Texas.

She will be included as part of the Rising Stars list, published in the July 2012 issue of Texas Monthly.

Key Professional Media Inc., a leading researcher and publisher of Super Doctors, asks physicians to nominate colleagues (excluding themselves) whom they would choose in seeking medical care.

Each year, newer doctors that have been fully-licensed approximately 10 years or less also are named.

These outstanding young physicians are recognized in Texas Rising Stars 2012.

No more than 2.5 percent of active Texas physicians are selected to the Texas Rising Stars list.

The selection process for Texas Rising Stars groups doctors into 41 specialties and those who acquired the highest total points from surveys, research and blue ribbon panels are included in the award selection.

Mapa is the daughter of Drs. Manolo and Helouise Mapa.

She graduated with honors from both St. Aloysius and St. Andrews schools.

She was salutatorian of her graduating class in Willoughby, Ohio, and graduated magna cum laude from a six year program at Northeastern Ohio School of Medicine in 2003.

Mapa completed her residency at Baylor University in Houston, Texas.

After practicing for two years at Ohio State University as an attending physician, Mapa is now associated with TIRR Hermann Memorial at Baylor University. Filipino Reporter
