Young Philippine-based designer Happy Andrada was named "Emerging Designer of the Year" in the 2012 Miami Beach International Fashion Week (MBIFW) in the United States.

Happy, the first Filipina to receive this recognition, bested hundreds of participants from all over the world.

She is a co-owner of F*ART Fashion ART, a one-of-a-kind boutique that displays both her ready-to-wear line and made-to-measure outfits.

Happy told GMA News Online: “I am very grateful for this recognition. It inspires me to continue making clothes that bring out my best as a designer and at the same time bring pride to the Philippines.”

She added that she "will be representing the Philippines in the Toronto Arts and Fashion Week on April 27, 2012 and in December, at Korea’s Fashion Art Biennale.”

As the MBIFW’s Emerging Designer, Happy won a cash prize and a mentoring session with Mercedez Gonzales, president of the Global Purchasing Group, a company that implements retail strategies for merchants and new designers.

Happy took up Fashion Designing at the Lasalle College International.
