Fil-Am Cheesa's fate on 'The Voice' up to voters

MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino-American Cheesa Laureta survived the instant elimination on the US talent search "The Voice" on Monday night (Tuesday morning in Manila) with her powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing."
Laureta will now have to face America's vote, the results of which will be announced live on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning in Manila).
Last week, Laureta landed on the bottom three of Team Cee Lo based on votes and had to be saved by mentor Cee Lo Green to move on in the competition.
Laureta described being in the bottom three as a "life-changing experience" and promised to improve her game by picking "I Have Nothing" as her song for this week.
Calling her style as "diva-esque," she said, "I really love that song. I've sung it as a litttle girl."
The judges praised her performance, with singer Christina Aguilera saying she is proud that Laureta went for it.
Mentor Green was obviously pleased by his protegee, saying she did a wonderful job. "It's time to start investing on the next powerhouse singer," he told Laureta.
But some viewers weren't as impressed. Blogger Rickey of rickey.org said, "She’s all decked out in a sparkly ensemble. Vocally, she’s a little powerhouse. Sometimes, though, she doesn’t demonstrate complete control over her instrument. With this material, she’s certainly bringing it with the high notes. Some of them are pretty pitchy, though. Ouch."
Laureta dedicated her performance to her brother Troy, who was with her backstage.
"You represent not only your family but God," Troy told her sister.
Who goes home?
Green picked mechanic James Massone to be eliminated from his team despite his obvious appeal to girls.
Massone performed Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," which Aguilera and fellow judge Blake Shelton thought could have been better.
Meanwhile, Adam Levine eliminated Pip from his team, after faltering in the end of his perfomance of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know."
After Monday's cuts, Team Adam is down to Tony Lucca, who rocked out Britney Spears's "Baby One More Time," which drew surprise praise from Aguilera; young singer Mathai, who took on "I'm Like A Bird" by Nelly Furtado; and the Adele-inspired Katrina Parker, who impressed with Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts."
Laureta will be up against heavy favorites on Team Cee Lo led by Jamar Rogers, who received great comments from the judges and fans for his rearrangement of Bon Jovi's "It's My Life."
There is also rocker Juliet Simms, who pulled out all the stops with "Cryin'" by Aerosmith, wearing black angel wings.
