Filipino shows honored at New York Festivals Int’l TV & Film Awards

Filipino programs have gained recognition at the recently-concluded 2012 New York Festivals International TV and Film Awards.

ABS-CBN and GMA News and Public Affairs earned three world medals each during the ceremony held last April 17 in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, two TV5 shows were given finalist certificates: Wanted – Child Special, which made it to the Community Service Programs category and News 5 Debates – A Challenge For Change, which was included in the Politics category.

ABS-CBN RECOGNITIONS. The pan-Asian musical TV series The Kitchen Musical was honored with a Gold world medal in the Best Writing category.

It also earned a Bronze world medal for best performance for the entire cast, which includes Filipino actors Karylle and Christian Bautista, Art Acuña, Thou Reyes, and Ikey Canoy.

The Kitchen Musical was credited as a work from Singapore but was aired in the Philippines via Studio 23, ABS-CBN’s sister network.

Another Bronze world medal was given to the documentary Krusada: “Laya (Freedom),” which was included in the Social Issues/Current Events category.

The Kapamilya shows that received finalist certificates were:

Storyline for the Biography/Profiles category

Rated K – “Kwento ng Buhay Ko (This is my Life)” for the Magazine Format category

TV Patrol – “Storm” Juaning for the Best Newscast category

EDSA25: Sulyap sa Kasaysayan (A Glimpse of History) for the History & Society category

GMA-7 RECOGNITIONS. The Kapuso Network received three Silver World Medals from the prestigious award-giving body.

I-Witness won a Silver World Medal for the Lapnos (Burn) episode, which competed in the Social Issues and Current Events category.

The GMA News TV documentary program Front Row brought home two Silver world medals. One was given for its “Yaman sa Basura” (Child Urban Miners) episode shortlisted in the Social Issues category, while another one was given for the “Bente Dos” (Twenty-Two) episode included in the Biography/Profiles category.

Pluma: Si Rizal, Ang Dakilang Manunulat (Rizal, The Great Writer) for the History & Society category

Born To be Wild: The Born Expeditions Finale The Monster of Mae Klong and The Great White Shark for the Nature & Wildlife category

Reel Time: Lusong (Live to Dive) for the Social Issues/Current Events category

I-Witness: Gintong Putik for the Social Issues/Current Events category

– Reel Time: Tira (Infected) for the Social Issues/Current Events category

Now on its 55th year, the New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards honors “The World’s Best TV Programs & Films” in news, sports, documentary, information, and entertainment programs that “mirror today’s global trends and encourage the next generation of story-tellers.”
