MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Jessica Sanchez has gained another fan in President Aquino.
The President said he is happy that Sanchez has reached the top three in the American Idol singing contest.
He said he is hoping that Sanchez would win the top prize.
"Syempre matutuwa ka naman doon na number 3 na yata ngayon saka ‘yung naso-solicit niyang support from the communities that are eagerly watching her... wish her well. Hopefully, she really reaches the top," Aquino said in an interview with Bombo Radyo.
Vice President Jejomar Binay earlier congratulated the 16-year-old Sanchez and commended her for achieving so much at a young age.
"I wish to congratulate Jessica Sanchez on her on inclusion as one of the Top 3 finalists of American Idol Season 11. That she has already accomplished so much at such a young age is truly inspiring," Binay said.
The Vice President also called on Filipinos around the world to continue supporting Sanchez, who is now gearing up for the top three performance night next week Wednesday (Thursday morning in Manila).
"I call on our kababayans to continue to support Jessica as her quest to be this year's Idol nears its finale," he said.
A Palace spokesperson also joined calls to support Sanchez.
“Final three na ito and we really are hoping for the best. We are wishing her the best of luck in this final stretch. Yung mga kababayan po natin have taken to voting for Jessica so we hope that the support will continue,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
Sanchez is currently part of the show’s Top 3. She had a homecoming visit to her hometown Chula Vista, California over the weekend.
On Wednesday (Thursday morning in Manila), Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips will be performing three songs – judges’ choice, Jimmy Iovine’s choice and their own choice.
The two finalists who will be moving on to the finale will be announced on Thursday (Friday morning in Manila).
