DAMMAN, Saudi Arabia – A former lead vocalist of the band Jeremiah is now a nurse in the Kingdom.
Rico “Ico” Madrigalejos has not permanently turned his back on music, as he actually takes on singing engagements in Saudi Arabia.
“Sobrang masaya po talaga ako na makapag-perform sa mga Pilipino, sa mga kababayan natin para mapasaya din sila,” Madrigalejos said.
Many Filipinos are still familiar with the band’s songs.
“Yung mga tao sobrang masaya sila kapag kumakanta ako para sa kanila at alam nila yung songs ng Jeremiah lalo na yung 'Nanghihinayang',” he said.
The Jeremiah band rose to fame in the Philippines in the late 90s. Madrigalejos joined the group in 2004 as replacement for the band’s former lead singer, Olan Crizaldo.
Madrigalejos admitted that he did not see being a band member as a long term career. He left the group only after two years and studied nursing.

“Nag-decide po akong umalis ng banda kasi higit yung pangarap ko na makapag tapos ng pagaaral. I was so excited to continue my studies. Nag-graduate ako ng nursing and then nag-take ng board exams hanggang nagkaroon po ako ng opportunity na makapag abroad dito sa Saudi Arabia,” he said.
Madrigalejos has been working as a nurse in a hospital in Saudi for more than a year now.
He said he’s happy working as a nurse and at the same time pursue his passion for singing.Florante Catanus, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
