MANILA, Philippines – Will the Filipino "people power" be able to save Jessica Sanchez on “American Idol” anew?
On Wednesday (Thursday morning in Manila), the remaining four contestants in the hit American talent show will perform two songs each: a song from a California band and a song that they wish they had written.
The Top 3 finalists with the most number of votes will be announced on Thursday (Friday morning in Manila).
Since the show's first season, entering the Top 3 has been viewed as a crucial stage in "Idol." The contestants who will make it to the Top 3 will have a chance to return to their hometowns for a visit.
So far, Season 3’s Jasmine Trias is the only Filipino-American contestant on “Idol” to make the Top 3. But many are hopeful that Sanchez will match or even surpass the success of Trias on the show.
Popular American artists including Akon, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Jesse McCartney, Colbie Caillat and Jennifer Holiday, among others, have expressed admiration for Sanchez.
“She's only 16. Like, I've been around a lot of superstars. I haven't seen anyone at that age sing like that," said Akon.
"No disrespect to the rest of the people in the show because I think they are all talented. But I think (Jessica) she's the most ready, like vocally," Allen said.
“Jessica is a STAR. Joshua sangs for the blood. They wipe the floor with the other two. Its a SINGING competition,” said Lambert.
“Oh my oh my. Just caught up on Idol. @JSanchezAI11 has to be 1 of THE BEST singers on the planet! Same level as Beyonce 4 sure,” said Caillat.
“Whoaaaaa!!! Who is this Jessica Sanchez??? She's got my VOTE!!! For real! She's unbelievable!!!” McCartney said.
"Bravo, Jessica! U blew us away with ur passion & pretty smile! Keep singing, cuz we 'keep falling in, but never out, of luv wt u,'” said Holiday.
Even eight-division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao said he believes Sanchez can clinch the win.
But at the end of the day, Sanchez’s fate will depend on her supporters no matter how good she does during the performance night.
Three weeks ago, Sanchez was almost sent home after she received the lowest number votes among the Top 7 contestants but judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez chose to use their one and only “save” on the Filpino-Mexican-American singer.
Last week, Sanchez made a strong comeback on “Idol”, only proving that she is worth the save.
"How could we have let this girl go home?" asked Lopez, reminding the audience to continue their support for Sanchez.
In response, several groups have further fueled their campaign to vote for Sanchez this week so she can make a "homecoming visit" to San Diego.
At the end of the competition, Twitter users @4JessicaSanchez, @JSanchezFanClub, @Vote4Jessica, @Akazukincha15 @TeamThiaMegia and others plug Sanchez’s numbers and encourage people to vote.
If Sanchez wins “American Idol,” she will also make history by being the youngest contestant ever to win the hit competition.
Joining Sanchez in the Top 4 are Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh and Phillip Phillips.
Americans and Filipinos in the United States can vote for Sanchez through phones calls or text votes after the show tomorrow.
Votes can also be cast on americanidol.com voting page or American Idol's Facebook page.
