Jessica performances likened to Pacquiao fights

MANILA, Philippines – Wednesdays and Thursdays have become an opportunity for Filipinos in the United States to gather and be united with one goal: to see to it that Jessica Sanchez becomes this season's American Idol.
This is what ABS-CBN North America Correspondent Yong Chavez said in an interview with radio dzMM on Sunday morning.
According to Chavez, it has become the new weekly “routine” of Filipino-Americans in the U.S. to get together as they follow Sanchez’s journey in the hit singing competition “American Idol.”
Sanchez is the fourth contestant on “Idol” who has Filipino roots. She is currently part of the show’s Top 4 finalists.
“Very fast paced ang buhay dito and yet they take the time every Wednesday and Thursdays and do the voting together. Nagiging time for family and friends every week,” Chavez said.
Chavez even likened the weekly event to a Manny Pacquiao fight when all Filipinos stop what they are doing and become glued to the television.
“Jessica has every Filipino in the United States voting for her,” she said.
Chavez said a lot of Filipinos are hoping that with Sanchez’s emergence as a frontrunner on "American Idol," this would eventually break the streak of having another “white guy with guitar” win this season.
Chavez also revealed that “Idol” experts are expecting a Sanchez-Joshua Ledet finale.
For this week, the remaining “Idol” contestants are expected to sing two California-themed songs.
The three finalists who will make it to the next round will have a homecoming.
Along with Sanchez is the Top 4 are Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh and Phillip Phillips.
