3 PH universities join world’s best in English

Ateneo beats other English-speaking universities

MANILA, Philippines -- Three universities in the Philippines made it to the top 50 in the world where one will have the best education about the English language and literature.
Based on the study made by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds, Ateneo de Manila ranked 24th in the World University Rankings by Subject 2012 (Arts and Humanities – English Language and Literature).
Not far from Ateneo is the University of the Philippines, which ranked 32nd; and the De La Salle University, which ranked 44th.
The list ranked Cambridge, Harvard, Oxford, Yale and University of California Berkeley as the top five.
Ateneo, however, beat even other universities in English-speaking nations such as the University of Melbourne, University of Texas at Austin, University of York, University of Sydney, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, Brown University and University of California (Irvine).
Quacquarelli rated around 600 schools. In fact, coming in at 101 to 150 is Ateneo de Davao.
Last month, the Philippines was also named the world’s best country in business English proficiency, according to the GlobalEnglish Corporation, whose annual Business English Index, which measures English proficiency in the workplace.
